Born: February 16, 1931
Died: February 12, 2013
Tom was born in Cle Elum WA to James and Grace (Mulderig) Quann in 1931. He passed away peacefully in his home after a long and determined battle with cancer on Feb. 12, just four days short of his 82nd birthday. His growing up years were in central Washington, attending high school in the Coulee City/Hartline area. He graduated from Washington State College in 1953 and received a Master's degree in 1963 from WSU. He proudly served in the US Army from 1953-55. His career with WSU Cooperative Extension spanned 34 years, with a major emphasis on the 4-H Youth Program.
Tom was a gentle, humble person who was committed to education and service. A strong work ethic served him and others well. He was active in All Saints Catholic Church and the Kiwanis Club of Puyallup. A scholarship endowment with the WA State 4-H Foundation was established in his name in 2011. Also that year he was awarded the WSU Foundation Faculty/Staff Outstanding Volunteer Service Award. In 2012 a scholarship endowment was established in his honor by the Puyallup Kiwanis Foundation.
He had a deep faith in God and a strong love and commitment to his family. He was predeceased by an infant son, Timothy, and a sister Kate. Surviving him are his wife Mary Kohli, six children, Mary Ann Quann (Herb Bivins), Sandy Quann, Tom A Quann (Erin), Kathy Schmidt (Lou), Dan Quann (Denise), and Patrick Quann (Biff); his first wife, Patricia Quann Kendig, 13 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, sister Margaret Jernberg and brother Jim Quann (Barbara).
Tom was a proud Irishman and enjoyed two trips to his ancestral homeland. He enjoyed travel throughout the US and Europe. His chef skills were appreciated by family and friends, one of the many ways he showed his love for them. Woodworking provided much pleasure and satisfaction as he created gifts for family, Kiwanis auctions, and others.
We will miss you, Tom. Just know that you left your "brand" not only on the handcrafted gifts of wood but on our hearts and lives.
